Uniform Requirements

The Academy Uniform

We are delighted to present our new up to date uniform list. The enclosed list supersedes any previous information from GEMS World Academy.

The Academy sets a very high standard for student presentation through compulsory uniform. This promotes a business like, work orientated atmosphere for students and shared identity.

• All items of uniform are compulsory.
• No other clothing items are allowed.
• Black / blue leather shoes are compulsory. Skate shoes, trainers and shoes with heels are not permitted for daily wear.
• Jewellery is not permitted other than a watch and stud ear-rings for girls.
• GWA Ties / bows / scarves should be worn at all times and for boys, top buttons always fastened.
• Blazers should be available at the Academy every day for all Grades 4- 12
• Bags – students should use the GWA laptop bag and sports ‘holdall’ when available. Fashion bags are not permitted.
• Nail varnish and make up are permitted, but light and appropriate day wear only.
• Hair should be well groomed. Extreme hairs cuts – boys with excessive gel – are not permitted.
• Personal hygiene is extremely important
• Girls use plain hair bands / scrunchies or discrete blue / black alternatives.

Basic uniforms are required to be worn on August 31. Accessory items will be available at the end of Ramadan. Students are expected to use compulsory accessory items on the first school day after Eid Al Fitr.

Zaks Services Provided:

1. Parents may call 800 Zaks (9257), to receive information about store timings, services, prices, and compulsory uniforms. Information may also be faxed or emailed to the respective parents over the phone.
2. Zaks Personal Shopper:
   Zaks has introduced an exclusive service known as the Zaks Personal Shopper. Parents calling 800-Zaks can use this service of having somebody come to their home/office with the entire GWA uniform kit for ordering. The goods ordered will be delivered within 3-4 working days. This service costs AED 300, and may be paid at time of delivery by cash or credit.
3. Alterations:
   Zaks offers a ‘one year free alteration service’ on all Bermuda shorts, trousers and skirts purchased, as they come with generous seam allowances.
4. Made to Measure (tailoring):
   A ‘made to measure’ service is also provided at no additional charge to those students who do not fit the prescribed size grid of readymade uniforms.
5. Name Tag Machine:
   Iron-On name tag machines instantly print name tags within seconds, which are much easy alternative to stitch on tags. They can be used to variety of items and are durable.
6. Buckle Up Shoes:
   Zaks houses Buckle Up Shoes brand, which specialize in school shoes. Buckle Up has a variety of over 20 shoes styles geared specifically towards children’s school and outdoor footwear.

Dress Code

GWA will follow a dress code as outlined below. Please ensure that all clothing is clearly labelled with name.
